Cape Reinga Half Day Fly/Drive Excursion

Helicopter Hole in the Rock Scenic Flight
Enjoy a scenic flight over the beautiful Bay of islands. Fly over the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the main island group to the world famous “Hole in the Rock”. Pou Herenga Tai from south of Kaikohe to Okaihau. Its gentle gradient and smooth surface makes it an easy ride for cyclists of all ages and fitness levels. This section of the cycleway is built on an old rail corridor and features an 80m rail tunnel dating back to 1915. It passes through the heartland of the Far North giving you extensive rural views out to the Hokianga in the West, Lake Omapere and farmland to the East. There are resting places and photographic opportunities all along the trail.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds
The Treaty Grounds are a “must see” when you visit the Bay of Islands. This is the place where the founding document of New Zealand as it is today was signed between the British and the Maori in 1840. The grounds are a museum style attraction and open from 0830 until 1800 in the summer. There are guided tours of the area, or you can wander through by yourself.
The Cultural Performance at Waitangi is highly recommended. Their group is highly regarded in Kapa Haka competitions, and their cultural performances are 35 minutes in duration and operate at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Waitangi also offer an excellent evening Hangi (traditional Maori feast cooked in an earth oven) & Concert at the Whare Waka Café. This operates January – March and starts at 5.30pm and concludes at 8.30pm. Operates Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
